While the Madras Science Foundation is involved in many activities related to promotion of science in this country, conferring of the Foundation’s ‘Fellowship’ title (Fellow of the Madras Science Foundation) is considered as a ‘highest & distinguished honor’ of the Foundation. The Madras Science Foundation envisages co-operation with institutes of higher learning and research. Such an active participation would serve to sustain interest in research in diverse fields so as to provide an opportunity for experts to continue their field of investigation undisturbed and enable them to become engaged in activities relevant to the needs of the society. To encourage scientific and critical thinking, sharing of ideas and knowledge would be the primary concern of the Fellows of the Foundation.

Programme on the river Kaveri’, sponsored by the Ministry of Environment
and to the study of the Kodaikanal lake needs mention, besides a series of
publications under the Background Reading Material Scheme, sanctioned by
the Ministry of Science and
Technology. Years ago, a research project on Pilocene Mammalian Fauna from
The Fellows of the Foundation have been giving popular lectures to college and school students besides conducting competitions for school children on specified and diversified subjects. During the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Foundation, an Inter-school elocution competition on ‘I will choose science as a career because…’ was organized by the Foundation.
